Our History
In 1985, Scott Downen founded Columbine Hills Concrete, Inc. in Summit County, Colorado, focusing on concrete flatwork and commercial site concrete. By 1992, the company began investing in equipment and self-performing grading and dirt work. Throughout the mid-90s, it expanded into building concrete foundations and structural concrete. Recognizing the benefits of self-performance across multiple scopes, the company continued to growth. In 1994, it seized the opportunity to acquire a small asphalt paving operation, establishing an asphalt paving division. In the early 2000s, Columbine diversified further, undertaking larger excavation projects, deep utilities, and site development. As operations expanded, so did the need for additional trucking capacity. In 2016, the company acquired trucks and drivers from a local trucking company that was closing. In 2020 the company changed leadership as the owner and his management team retired, passing the Management of the Company on to the next generation of Managers. The most recent expansion occurred in 2023 when Columbine incorporated a landscaping and irrigation division from another local business, catering to both commercial and residential projects.

Our company has always been grounded in its roots while maintaining a steadfast commitment to the values upon which it was founded. As we move forward, we remain dedicated to evolving alongside our community, adapting to it’s changing needs and aspirations.
