Columbine Hills Receives “Best in Colorado” Award

We have co-winners in this category as the top two projects scored within 2 points of each other.  Our first winner is the Town of Breckenridge CIP Program with a score of 299.0.   The Paving Contractor is Columbine Hills Construction represented by Andrew Stallings, Vice President.  The Owner/Agency, Town of Breckenridge represented by Daniel Kosel, Steve Worrall, and Scott Jackman.

This $2.5 M project included mill/overlay and full depth reclamation with 4,500 tons of new asphalt on 10 critical roadways in the Town of Breckenridge.    A highlight of the project was full depth replacement in asphalt of the North Main Street roundabout.  A significant challenge was coordinating traffic on a detour since this is where Highway 9 transitions to Main Street in Breckenridge.   Columbine Hills and Town Engineers worked together on grade issues to eliminate all but one concrete cross pan on South French St.  Key contributors included Western Milling LLC performed the milling and reclamation, Mountain Striping performed the pavement markings and striping, and CMT Technical Services performed the quality assurance testing.  The project received perfect or near perfect scores including overall appearance, segregation, longitudinal joints, and ride quality.  The judges commented, “Gorgeous! Challenging paving with round-a-bout right off the highway, steep hill on Washington St., lots of nice tie ins with pads and driveways.  Nice work!”   Congratulations to Columbine Hills Construction and the Town of Breckenridge for an outstanding project!
